Staten Island Advance/Hilton Flores Former New York Knicks' great Walt (Clyde) Frazier, left, looks on as Unity Games co-founder Jacob Carey, center, and Carl Jackson conduct a cultural sensitivity workshop. STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- As the eighth-annual Unity Games kicked off at Michael J. Petrides School in Sunnyside yesterday, sportsmanship seemed the immediate favorite to win. Some 270 seventh- and eight-graders from around the Island gathered early for a weekend's worth of basketball match-ups and tol

"The Understudy." Theresa Rebeck shows her way with a satirical, behind-the-scenes take on the acting world. A crazed rehearsal exposes all that's brilliant and ridiculous about what really goes on backstage.

That's "One, Two, Three," released in 1961, but Hope wasn't in it. It starred the great James Cagney and was written and directed by the great Billy Wilder. Q: I am trying to find an old movie (1960s) about a man who had just gotten out of the penitentiary for murder.

By no means am I suggesting that Hillsborough County Commissioner Jim Norman has green skin, pointy ears or three-digit appendages. But as the board continues to wade through "Snoopgate," the e-mail controversy enveloping County Center, Norman consistently takes an elder statesman's approach, preaching patience and due process. Speaking of Snoopgate , don't be surprised if former state Sen. Tom Lee emerges as an interim candidate to replace County Administrator Pat Bean if she loses her job.

Last week's reported sexual assault of a teenage girl by a stranger outside Fox River Mall has caused parents to rethink the safety of their children. Lori Carrell of Oshkosh, who was shopping Saturday at the mall with her 15-year-old daughter, Cheyenne, said the assault was alarming because the victim had been with a friend before the suspect, posing as a police officer, separated them. "I think we both thought that two 13-year-olds would be safe at the mall together, but now, I would say no," Carrel

Following a series of house breakage, the commandment "Thou shall not steal" was forcefully brought home to a man in North East La Penitence yesterday. His teachers were the residents who decided that enough is enough. Thieves managed to break into homes, remove valuables and evade residents of the area since last year June.

"The Surrendered" gets off to a riveting start with a powerful first 30 pages, as readers follow an 11-year-old girl leading her two younger siblings on a refugee trek through Korea in the early 1950s. It's a journey as emotionally grueling as anything in Cormac McCarthy's "The Road," and all the more horrifying for its true historical setting. Lee, author of three previous novels including the highly regarded "Native Speaker," has a lucid, realistic writing style that keeps the pages turning as he d
